Porcelain, underglaze, clear glaze, nail polish, tea, sugar — fired to cone 10; 10″ x 9″ x 5″ (teapot dimensions)

This porcelain tea service was designed to summon the spirit of activist and politician Victoria Woodhull when used. Each piece is handpainted with underglaze; the imagery includes references to Ouija/talking boards and the tarot, a list of Woodhull’s accomplishments, and a portrait of Woodhull herself. The teapot is stamped with the words of Woodhull: “Yes, I am a free lover. I have an inalienable, constitutional, and natural right to love whom I may; to love as long or short a period as I can; to change that love every day if I please.”
