Prickly Pear is a weft-faced plain weave tapestry based on a photograph I took of a cluster of Opuntia cactus on the grounds of the wonderful Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco, California. The soft textures of the natural fibers invite exploratory touch, in tension with the sharp reality — grab the fruit, feel unseen splinters enter your hand.
