LINGUA FLORA, 2015
Porcelain, underglaze, clear glaze — fired to cone 10
In a form of historical cryptography, lovers in the botany-crazed Victorian age imbued flowers with the power of language, crafting “talking bouquets” with an eye to symbolic meaning. Used to communicate coded missives in plain view, flowers gave people a way to express emotions and desires not socially acceptable to speak aloud. Each design in the LINGUA FLORA collection is crafted with a different symbol in mind.
