Séance for a Suffragist
porcelain, underglaze, clear glaze, nail polish
fired to cone 10
This porcelain tea service was designed to summon the spirit of the badass activist and politician Victoria Woodhull. Each piece is handpainted with underglaze; the imagery includes references to Ouija and the tarot, a list of Woodhull's accomplishments, and a portrait of our heroine herself. The tea pot is also stamped with a quote from Woodhull: "Yes, I am a free lover. I have an inalienable, constitutional and natural right to love whom I may; to love as long or short a period as I can; to change that love every day if I please."
